YOUR FIRST GHOST HUNT EVENT

Let Haunted Escapes guide you through your first ghost hunt event. Take a read through what to expect, how to prepare your mind, and how you can be the biggest impact on your own ghost hunting experience

YOUR FIRST GHOST HUNT

You have your first event ticket. You may have bought your first K2 EMF Meter and you are now ready to experience your first ghost hunt event. But what should you expect on the night?

Your first ghost hunt event will be one of anticipation mixed with nervousness and excitement. You are stepping into new territory and you will most definitely be getting into cosey intimate groups with complete strangers for your night of paranormal fun.

The majority of paranormal investigation events follow a similar structure for how the night will run, which we’ll cover through this article.

MEET AND GREET

Road trip to location completed, with likely a coffee in hand, you are about to be welcomed into the world of paranormal investigation. Your hosts for the evening will greet you with an enthusiastic hello before asking for your booking confirmation. For those of us who are hosts, we have a two very predictable questions we always ask when greeting guests. Are you excited? Along with, have you done a ghost hunt before?

Excellent hosts love to get to know their guests. We do take a genuine interest in you and it really is about making the night yours and as memorable as possible for you.

After being signed in and a short chat, you will go to the base room. This is where you’ll be able to leave bags, coats, etc. along with your resting place for the tea break. One thing to note is that there are usually thirty to forty other guests at the same event as you and the base room will have chairs all lined up, so don’t be shy, say hello and get chatting with your fellow ghost hunt buddies!

You’ll also find the other members of the hosting team in the base room, making sure everyone is looking forward to the night ahead and being generally friendly and inquisitive.

THE WELCOME INTRO

The curtains have been lifted and the show, or in this case, the event, is about to begin. Your hosts will take centre stage to run through what the night will consist of, and the types of vigils you’ll be experiencing, along with setting some expectations.

Another favourite question hosts like to ask guests is, who has never done a ghost hunt before? This is just a way to show you that you aren’t alone on your first ghost hunt event. There is often an even mix of first timers and the more experienced, which is always a bonus.

After some of the formality messages of fire exit locations, health and safety information (imagine running away scared in the pitch black and not noticing a step) ouch! You’ll be split into your ghost hunt team for the night.

VIGIL TIME

You are on the move to your vigil area. You are ready to have confirmation that ghosts really do exist and you are convinced you will witness a full apparition.

Let’s pause there and take a moment. Remember when we mentioned setting expectations? There is a very good reason this is mentioned in the welcome intro.

Being on a ghost hunt is very subtle. It is rarely how it is seen on TV. It is more often a case of you witnessing small occurrences, such as faint knocking or tapping, cold spots suddenly appearing out of nowhere, etc.

The biggest and most frequent experience is emotion. So it’s crucial to pay close attention to how you are feeling at any given moment when on your vigils. The change in emotion can be sudden and one that you might not think related to the paranormal.

Countless times we have seen the full spectrum of emotion. Laughing, crying, anger, and fear can and do come in to play. These emotion changes are the biggest indicator of possible ghostly activity being witnessed on a personal level. It’s often your sensing, and it’s something you should trust and go with.

When it comes to ghost hunting, our own bodies are the most important tool we can use. Yes, we can have all the paranormal kits to help the investigation, but keeping yourself in check and in tune is what makes the difference.

So you are on your vigil, standing in a dark room with your host working to make things happen. You are starting to experience a shift in your emotional state. This is the best time for you to speak up and share with the group what you are experiencing and here’s why.

Taking the plunge and speaking up is best thought of as a key. You will unlock the potential for the investigation to go to the next level and your ghost hunt buddies will thank you for this.

Icebreaking is often difficult. We can often feel silly. We might even think we are saying or doing something wrong. It’s our experience that nobody is ever judged for what they say or do (you should see and hear some of the things I do). The main thing to remember is we are all there for the same reason, the passion for paranormal.

Try not to be shy, get stuck in and speak out. What we as a group put into the vigil is absolutely what we will get out of the experience.

HALF TIME

You are halfway through the night. You’ve witnessed some interesting occurrences and you’ve slowly come out of your shell. Now is time for you to grab yourself a coffee and a sugary snack. Notice how I said sugar? This is the late night slump and you’ll start to feel a little tired so the sugar hit will boost your energy levels.

RETURN TO VIGIL

On your second run into the vigils, you’ll find this last part of the night goes by in an instant!

You will immediately notice how different these vigils are to the start of the night. You will find yourself calling out more and you’ll have a sense of newfound confidence. Keep this momentum going, absorb everything that happens no matter how subtle it is. This is you, your ghost hunt buddies, and the hosts making the memories!

SUMMARY

Attending you first ghost hunt is always one of the most memorable. It will also leave you wanting more and no doubt you will soon be booking another night of paranormal investigation
